We started the first leg of our vacation weekend in San Antonio. We were able to stay with our good friends Tony & Rachel who have two little boys almost the same age as Madelyn and Cooper. They played long - they played hard. Cooper even decided to go number 2 in their backyard when the kids were playing naked in the sprinklers (they were doing this to wash off all of the sand that stuck to their sweaty little bodies before going inside!) Kevin and I got to go see Kevin Fowler with the adults which was a nice break. Not too much sleep happening, but with our kids, it never does!
This was our 3rd year of going to Garner and we had a fantastic time! Madelyn is at the perfect age to enjoy spending time with her cousins and playing in the river. She was even brave enough to try the rope swing first and did it over and over and over again! She would get so tired that she couldn't see straight but would cry every time we told her it was bed time. We let her stay up late (past 9:00) but she still wanted to keep going!
Cooper threw fits, threw rocks and swam around in the river like he didn't have a care in the world. He has about 98% control of his balance with his life jacket so he just swims from here to there and back again! He loves the water as much as Madelyn does and doesn't seem to be scared of much. This scares mommy!
We took the tent for them to sleep in. Madelyn did awesome. Cooper...not so much. He was up the first night at 3:30 am and wouldn't go back to sleep. He was up for the day at 6:30 and the bags under his eyes said it all! He was exhausted! The following two days he was up at 6:15. So much for a vacation, right?! Luckily we were able to take turns sleeping later and taking naps.
The kids got to enjoy soda for the first time and they asked repeatedly for it! I think I liked it better when they didn't know what it was but we couldn't hide it from them forever. They know its a special treat and they took full advantage of it on vacation. But isn't that what vacation is for?!
The drive home actually wasn't that bad. For once, they kids were seemingly decent in the car other than a few arguments over who got the ipad and iphone. And of course, they slept past the past couple of mornings. I think they are still exhausted from it all...I know I am!
